Trawling the Internet tonight has got me all nostalgic about old TV shows I liked. It got me thinking about the 'virtual reality' gameshow called Cyberzone (c. 1993), presented by Craig Charles. I remember him using the term 'AWOOGA!' to stir up the crowd during the show... long before John Fashanu used it in Gladiators. In fact, there is evidence that Fash stole the phrase from Charles, since he appeared on Cyberzone himself.
Interestingly, the word 'awooga' was used in an episode of Red Dwarf (also starring CC):
Late edit - interesting trivia about Cyberzone: the computers used were a network of 486 PCs, each with an astounding 8Mb of memory - the most tasty machine you could by at the time. (uktvgameshows). Also, Cyberzone was produced by Broadsword, the same people who brought us Knightmare!

Rimmer: Hey. What's that streaky blue missile thing that's heading towards us?Coincidence? I think not.
Holly: Hang on, I'll just check my data bank. Apparently it's a streaky blue missile thing and it's heading towards us. AWOOGA! AWOOGA!
