The Power of YouTube

by CMB

After our conversations in the pub last night I learnt that a disturbing number of people doubt the power of YouTube. I'm going to demonstrate the true power of user created video in this post. The Germany vs. Argentina World Cup match from yesterday evening should serve as an example of a contemporary event, so here it is as reported by the users of YouTube:

First up all the interesting bits of the match...
48th, Roberto Ayala - Argentina Goal
80th, Miroslav Klose - Germany Goal
Germany - Argentina Penalty shootout
After Match Celebrations (French TV didn't shy away from showing the fight)

Secondly "citizen journalism". This is exactly what makes YouTube so awesome. Up until the rise of the ubiquitous video camera and high speed internet it was completely unthinkable that we'd be able to see a 'citizen's eye view' of virtually any major event that happens anywhere on earth, often more quickly than the news agencies report on it. Here are just a few from the Germany-Argentina game:
Germany Fans Singing the National Anthem
And again, but this time from inside the stadium
The penalty that put Germany into the Semi Finals

As an additional bonus, all the highlights from the 1990 world cup final between Germany and Argentina:

Finally, just because I wanted to know if it was on there:
David Beckham being sick for England (do not watch if you have a weak stomach for this sort of thing)
