I recently heard about an artist called Louis Wain. He was active around the early part of the 20th century and made a living from drawing rather nice pictures of anthropomorphised cats:

Now, unfortunately for Mr. Wain he began to suffer from late-onset schitzophrenia and, well, it showed in his art. Let's take a look at how his art changed over the years that he was locked in an asylum:

I also remember a while ago finding a link to a set of self portraits, one drawn every hour, by an artist under the influence of LSD. If anybody knows where on the internet these pictures are I'd love to see them again.
