I recently heard about an artist called Louis Wain. He was active around the early part of the 20th century and made a living from drawing rather nice pictures of anthropomorphised cats:

Now, unfortunately for Mr. Wain he began to suffer from late-onset schitzophrenia and, well, it showed in his art. Let's take a look at how his art changed over the years that he was locked in an asylum:
